01 / About our Business

Geotechnical Consultancy.

Practical Engineering for Real Construction Challenges

Aus Geotech provides practical geotechnical consultancy services throughout the project lifecycle — from tender and pre-construction review through to construction, verification and project delivery.

What guides us

Our Values.

Our values guide how we work, from technical decisions and project delivery to the wellbeing of people and the environment.

The principles behind our work

Expertise and Excellence

With over two decades of industry leadership in Australia, we stand at the forefront of geotechnical engineering, handling any project with the highest standards of excellence and innovation.

Value 1 of 4: Expertise and Excellence

Technical.Practical.Commercial.
02 / Construction context

We work closely with project teams to understand not only the ground conditions, but also the design requirements, construction methodology, programme and commercial constraints of the project.

03 / Risk & response

Our engineers review available geotechnical information, specifications and design documentation to identify potential risks early and provide practical solutions when actual site conditions differ from those anticipated.

Explore our expertise

Geotechnical

At Aus Geotech, we understand that geotechnical decisions can have significant impacts on construction methodology, programme, cost and overall project outcomes. Our role goes beyond testing the ground and issuing reports.

We work closely with our clients throughout the project lifecycle to understand the technical requirements, construction challenges and commercial implications associated with ground conditions.

By combining geotechnical expertise with a practical understanding of construction, we help project teams identify risks early, assess available options and develop solutions that are technically sound, practical to construct and commercially considered.

Materials Testing

Our testing labs offer construction materials testing for diverse projects, including commercial builds, underground tunnels, mines, infrastructure, and transportation.

Engineering in context

Technical Advice.
Commercial Awareness.

A technically correct solution is not always the most practical solution for a construction project.

Where appropriate, we assess alternative approaches with consideration of available materials, plant, construction sequencing, programme and cost.

This allows our clients to make informed decisions based not only on engineering performance, but also on the wider impact to the project.

Where conditions differ from those anticipated in the project documentation, we can also assist in documenting the technical basis of the issue and the additional works required, providing our clients with clear engineering information to support project discussions and legitimate contractual or variation processes.

From understanding to outcome

A clear path
through complexity.

Our Approach / 5 steps
  1. Understand the Project

  2. Identify the Risk

  3. Assess the Options

  4. Develop a Practical Solution

  5. Verify the Outcome

Our objective is straightforward: help our clients manage geotechnical risk, solve construction problems and achieve better project outcomes — technically, practically and commercially.

THE GROUND, EXPLAINED

What is geotechnical?

01 / Understanding the ground

Geotechnical engineering studies soil, rock and groundwater, and how they interact with what we build.

From a road pavement to a building foundation, construction places demands on the ground. Geotechnical testing provides measurable information about its properties and condition, helping engineers and project teams make informed decisions.

EXPLORE THE GROUND

Three things that influence a project.

LOOK BELOW THE SURFACE

Different layers. Different behaviour.

Fill, natural soils and rock can vary across a site and with depth. Identifying the materials and their properties helps teams understand what the works will encounter.

Testing helps build a picture of the ground beyond what is visible at the surface.

EVIDENCE BEFORE ASSUMPTIONS

Why do we need
geotechnical tests?

A surface inspection is only part of the picture. Testing adds evidence about the materials beneath and within the works.

01

Inform the design

Evidence about the ground supports decisions on foundations, pavements, earthworks and retaining structures.

02

Identify areas for attention

Testing can reveal differences in material properties or ground response that need further assessment before work progresses.

03

Check construction quality

Field and laboratory results help assess material condition, moisture and compaction against the project’s specified requirements.

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Building
a road.

Investigation helps characterise the existing ground beneath the pavement. During earthworks, density and moisture tests can check placed fill against the specified criteria, while proof rolling observes visible movement under a moving load.

Each check answers a different question. Together, the findings help the project team assess the work.
